The mission of the Minnesota Independent Health Club Association (MIHCA) is to enhance the services offered at fitness centers nationwide, to help increase membership and retention rates primarily through the use of incentives, and to provide networking and partnership opportunities among owners and managers. Operating as a non-profit organization, MIHCA pledges to act on behalf of its members to maximize the strength of the association.

MIHCA exists to help independent fitness center owners level the playing field as they compete against larger fitness entities. With over 300 member clubs in Minnesota, we collectively have more members and significantly more market share than the chain fitness centers.

MIHCA has a volunteer board of directors. This group, which is elected each spring, leads the association and sets direction based on the needs of the members.

Defibrillators (AED)
It is a real-life example of how an AED saved a life at a YMCA. We are in contact with the Attorney Generals office to get insight on a timeline for mandatory placement of AEDs in all fitness centers. We are also looking at the costs and training needs involved with using AEDs
